SEASON 2025/26

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  2  CELTIC  3
Scorers:  Watt, Gordon;  Maeda, Nygren, Iheanacho

An eventful night in North Lanarkshire as Celtic win a five goal thriller with the last gasp winner coming from the penalty spot after a VAR review.

Motherwell played in a new kit (a plain dark blue strip) to mark their 140th year since their formation.

MATCH 2060 - Saturday 14 March 2026

SEASON - 2025/26

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue: CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  3  MOTHERWELL  1

Scorers: Yang(2), Cvancara;  Just

Motherwell opened the scoring but Celtic managed to get level before half time.  The result was decided on a big VAR call in the second half when Celtic were awarded a penalty and due to the nature of the foul - a grab rather than a challenge in the box - a red card was given and Motherwell were reduced to 10 men.  In full view of the referee who failed to see such a significant incident.

Yang - the games MVP - with 2 goals

SEASON 2025/26

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

MOTHERWELL  2  CELTIC  0

Scorers: Said, Watt

Attendance: 11,435

My last match of 2025 was in North Lanarkshire and visiting Fir Park for the 57th time.

Motherwell started well and continued to dominated the game throughout to record a deserved victory over a very disjointed Celtic team.

SEASON 2025/26

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue: CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  3  MOTHERWELL  2

Scorers:  Iheanacho, Nygren, Maeda; Stamatelopoulos(2)

An injury time winner for Celtic but for much of the game it looked like another frustrating 90 minutes for the hoops.  The match had plenty of drama with two penalties, the lead changing three times, five goals as well as the very late winner.

SEASON 2024/25

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  1  CELTIC  3

Scorers:  Armstrong;  Maeda, Idah, Jota

Attendance: 8,293

Mild day in North Lanarkshire

The match will be remembered for the return of Jota, who rejoined Celtic after the transfer of Kyogo to French club, Stade Rennes.

Celtic created chance after chance and although leading it wasn't until the final minute of injury time that the match was settled and it was Jota who got the third Celtic goal to cap a very happy day for the away fans.

Jota leads the post-match celebrations

A straightforward away win for Celtic at Fir Park without the dramas of last season.  The first time seeing Luke McCowan score for Celtic who notched his second since joining recently from Dundee.

A great view from the first row of the away stand.

MATCH 1955 - Sunday 25 February 2024

SEASON 2023/24

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue: FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  1  CELTIC  3

Scorers: Spittal; Idah(2), Palma

My second visit to Fir Park this season and like the first one there was late drama in time added on as Celtic won the three points with two late strikes.

It was certainly "a game of two halves" for Celtic in terms of performance. First half was very laboured with few chances however they were transformed in the second after a change upfront.  Idah replaced Kyogo and the second half was just a series of Celtic chances.

Personal note:

  • 124th time attending this fixture - 111th in the league
  • 54th match at Fir Park - 47 Celtic matches

SEASON 2023/24

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  1  MOTHERWELL  1

Scorers:  Turnbull;  Obika

Poor match - a weak Celtic line up and Motherwell employing outrageous time wasting antics which the referee was unable to deal with.

As for the game Celtic were awarded two penalty kicks and typically missed one.

Personal note:

  • Overall my 18th match of the season including:
  • 10 Scottish Premiership league matches - all Celtic
  • 10 matches at Celtic Park in all competitions

MATCH 1935 - Saturday 30 September 2023

SEASON 2022/23

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  1  CELTIC  2

Scorers:  Spittal;  Palma, O'Riley

It looked like one goal would decide the game so when Celtic's recent signing Luis Palma scored his first goal for the club it seemed like the winner, it was only after the game I seen it was as late as the 87th minute, however a crazy injury time period gave us another two goals.

Motherwell first scored a dramatic equaliser but incredibly Celtic still managed to score again to secure the three points on a difficult away trip.

Personal note:

  • 122nd time attending this fixture
  • 42 of them at Fir Park
  • Overall the 133rd time seeing Motherwell

SEASON 2022/23

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  1  MOTHERWELL  1
Scorers:  McGregor; van Veen

On the fourth anniversary of Billy McNeill's death, Celtic are at home but give a less than inspiring performance against a Motherwell side determined to disrupt play as often as they could.  Despite having seven extra minutes Celtic are unable to break the deadlock following a well taken equaliser early in the second half.

Personal note:
  • 33rd Celtic match of the season
  • 5th time seeing Motherwell this season, making it 132 overall putting them in 4th place of clubs I've seen.
  • 122nd attending this fixture

Celtic's Japanese forwards Kyogo and Maeda both score to ensure the victory in North Lanarkshire.

SEASON 2022/23

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP Quarter Final

Venue:  FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  0  CELTIC  4

Scorers:Abada(2), Hatate, Kyogo

Celtic sale through to the quarter final of the League Cup with a good confident performance against their North Lanarkshire opponents.

The match has ridiculously early kick off time of 6:15pm in order to accommodate Premier Sports TV coverage but the Celtic faithful still make it on time:

Personal note:
  • 3rd Motherwell game of the season
  • 6th time seeing this fixture in the League Cup
  • My 120th Celtic match in this cup competition

 SEASON 2022/23

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue:  CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  2  MOTHERWELL  1

Venue: Kyogo, Hatate;  OG

Celtic make life difficult for themselves missing a series of very good chances, scoring an own goal and getting an avoidable red card.  Another two goals from Japan, first Kyogo opening the scoring and the winner from Hatate.

Personal note:

  • Thankfully match no. 1888 includes Celtic.
  • My 118th match between these clubs with 105 in league.
  • 10th match of the season - 9 involving Celtic, the other a Euro tie at Motherwell.

Season 2022/23

Qualifying Round 1st Leg

Venue: FIR PARK

MOTHERWELL  0  SLIGO ROVERS  1
Scorer:  Keena
Att: 7,227

European football comes to Fir Park with little Sligo Rovers from the north-west of Ireland the opposition.  Motherwell struggle to get going in their first competitive match of the new season.  While Sligo are well into their league programme.  Rovers star striker scores a well taken goal in the first half to cause an upset and take a lead into the second leg.

Some personal stats:
  • My 50th match at Fir Park
  • 4th time attending a Motherwell match in Europe
  • 2nd time seeing Sligo Rovers
