My son, Daniel's birthday trip to Sunderland. So not a great outcome for him but a good trip nevertheless.

Travel schedule: Train: Airdrie-Glasgow-Preston-Blackburn.

Return - Train: Blackburn-Manchester.  Bus: Manchester-Glasgow. Train: Glasgow-Airdrie.

Sunderland now managed by Tony Mowbray who left Blackburn in the summer.  He was replaced by Jon Dahl Tomasson.  An excellent first half goal was added to shortly after the restart. The result meant Rovers went to the top of the league.

Personal stuff:

• 2nd match between these sides, both at Ewood Park and both ending on home wins.
• 10th visit to Ewood Park.  Opponents were Celtic, Manchester United(3), Chelsea, Manchester City, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland(2).
• 16th Blackburn Rovers match and 48th Sunderland.

The start of my 42nd season attending football matches and I don't have to wait too long for the first goal of the season as Blackburn score within the first minute.

5th time attending this fixture and 15th Blackburn match overall.

A 9th visit to Ewood Park but first time in the Blackburn Stand behind the goal.

 West Brom wear their change strip of yellow & green but fail to shine.

Ex-Celt Charlie Mulgrew is on the scoresheet for the home side

Former Carlisle and Sunderland man Danny Graham puts Rovers in front but in the end United have the extra bit of quality in Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to win the tie.

Ex-Celt Charlie Mulgrew in the Blackburn line up.

First of two FA Cup ties in two days.  Stayed overnight in Blackburn Travelodge ideal location for anyone visiting Ewood Park for a game.  We were not sure where to park but opted for Asda car park and walked down the hill (about 10-15 minute walk).  Great travelling support from City but they were not given much to shout about as their team gave an indifferent performance.  Blackburn had the best of the second half and were a little unfortunate no to edge the tie.

 

Personal note: 2nd time seeing both these teams this season. Overall totals now Rovers 12, City 5, FA Cup 8.

MATCH 1522 - Wednesday, 7th August 2013

Final match of three night ground hop and like the previous nights the underdog progressed into the next round of the League Cup.  We watched the match from the away section.  Blackburn fans travelled in good numbers and were a very decent bunch.  The match ended up being a fabulous rollercoaster cup tie with six goals, 30 minutes extra time, penalties, a red card.

Manchester United believe they have all but sealed the title with a classic title run in performance at relation threatened Blackburn.  Soaking up lots of home pressure then scoring two late goals.  Valencia's strike inparticular is outstanding.
