MATCH 1978 - Saturday 26 October 2024

SEASON 2024/25

SCOTTISH CUP 2nd Round

Venue:  OLIVEBANK STADIUM

MUSSELBURGH ATHLETIC  2  CALEDONIAN BRAVES  1
Scorers: Barker, Court;  Murray

A fine second round Scottish Cup tie between East of Scotland (6th tier) side Musselburgh and top of the Lowland League (tier 5) side Caledonian Braves. Braves took the lead in the first half and the decisive moment of the tie seemed to have come very early in the second half when the home side were reduced to ten men.

Incredibly the ten men picked themselves up and recorded an unlikely victory and cup shock!

Personal note:
  • New ground - number 122nd
  • New club - Musselburgh - the 254th different club seen; 2nd time seeing Caledonian Braves
  • The 163rd Scottish Cup tie seen including 14 not involving Celtic.

CELTIC  2  ABERDEEN  2

Scorers: Hatate, Kyogo;  Sokler, Shinnie

An eventful afternoon with the top two sides going head to head (like old times).  Two goals in each half, with Celtic going 2 up through a Japanese combo of Hatate and Kyogo. Aberdeen giving a strong show of their strength in the second half replying with two to tie the match and stay joint top of the league.

This was the second time seeing Aberdeen this season after the opening game at Queen of the South and they have developed into a very good team under new manager Jimmy Thelin.
