SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Venue: CELTIC PARK

CELTIC  4  ST JOHNSTONE  0

Scorers:  Kuhn, Kyogo(2), Maeda

Celtic ended their 2024 schedule of fixtures at home to St Johnstone by fielding a starting XI with no Scottish players in the side, due to club captain, Callum McGregor getting a well earned and rare rest.

The starting XI was made up from the following nations:

Denmark

Canada USA Ireland Spain

Portugal Japan Belguim

Germany Japan South Korea

Callum, Luke McCowan and Anthony Ralston did come on as second half substitutes to give the Celtic team some Scottish representation on the field.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Venue: HAMPDEN PARK

CELTIC  3  RANGERS*  3

(Celtic won 5-4 on penalties)

Scorers:  Taylor, Maeda, Kuhn; Bajrami, Diomande, Danilo

Cup final with six goals, extra time, penalty kicks and when the drama was all over the League Cup headed to Celtic Park.

Rangers* opened the scoring on the stroke of half time.  Celtic responded well with two early second half goals only to be quickly pegged back.  In the final five minutes there were two more goals. Celtic thought they had won it with a few minutes to play after a fine move but Rangers* instantly equalised with a great cross and solid header.

Not much happened in extra time so the drama continued onto penalty kicks.  Celtic's five kicks were perfect and Kasper Schmeichel made the vital save to quickly become a Celtic hero.

 SEASON 2024/25

Group Stage

MANCHESTER UNITED  3 BODO/GLIMT  2
Scorers: Garnacho, Hojlund(2); Evjen, Zinckernagel

Manchester United welcomed their new head coach, Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford for the first time so it was a good time to go to my first United match of the season.

My day got off to a slow start as the 10.30 bus from Glasgow was late and then developed technical problems which meant a change of coach half an hour into the journey.  As a result I arrived in Manchester at 5:30pm (two hours late) so I headed straight to Old Trafford.

With nothing to eat all day my first stop was Lou Macari's chip shop for a tasty pre-match bite. I entered the ground just after 7 and the extended away end was already full and full of colour.

The game was full of interest from the first minute with United taking the lead in the first minute, then a remarkable turnaround with the clinical Norwegians scoring two quick fire and quality goals. However just before half-time United were level through Rasmus Hojlund who also grabbed the fifth goal of the night and ultimately the winning goal early in the second half.  They had many chances afterwards to make the game safe but continuely failed to hit the target.

SEASON 2024/25

Group Stage

CELTIC  1  BRUGGE  1

Scorers:  Maeda;  OG

Back to back Champions League matches for with no other games attended inbetween Leipzig on the 5th and this one.

Celtic couldn't quite get going in this one but the biggest frustration was giving Brugge the break of the first goal from an avoidable own goal in the first half.

Celtic equalised early in the second but still couldn't't find any momentum to go on and win the match. A draw the right result although it took a VAR intervention to stop Brugge going 2-1 ahead.

  • First time seeing Brugge and the fourth different Belgium club I've seen Celtic play in Europe.

Celtic reached the Scottish League Cup final by putting on the style at Hampden scoring three goals in each half to record an empathic victory over Aberdeen, who are currently the second best team in Scotland.  Daizen Maeda notched an excellent Hampden hat trick.

Sitting in the second back row of the East Stand way behind the goal however it gave a good overview of the full pitch.

SEASON 2024/25

SCOTTISH CUP 2nd Round

Venue:  OLIVEBANK STADIUM

MUSSELBURGH ATHLETIC  2  CALEDONIAN BRAVES  1
Scorers: Barker, Court;  Murray

A fine second round Scottish Cup tie between East of Scotland (6th tier) side Musselburgh and top of the Lowland League (tier 5) side Caledonian Braves. Braves took the lead in the first half and the decisive moment of the tie seemed to have come very early in the second half when the home side were reduced to ten men.

Incredibly the ten men picked themselves up and recorded an unlikely victory and cup shock!
